1915 Pleyel upright piano in navy blue - classic

1915 Pleyel upright piano in navy blue - classic

A complete one off from our own personal collection.

1915 Pleyel upright piano. Full internal restoration in the 1960s by Mrs Gordon pianos in London and played sparingly since. She had the hammers re-covered, replacement dampers, new straps and restrung. We even have the original invoice from the restoration and the options at the time were that if the customer wasn’t happy they could swap for a Bechstein or Steinway so it goes some way to show the company this piano can sit in.

The casework has just been professionally stripped down and painted in dark blue to give her a more contemporary feel. We have retained the original Ivory keys only giving them a light clean and polish to enhance their look. If preferred we can replace these for new plastic alternatives.

We have just replaced all the key bushings so she plays absolutely superb so feels modern to the touch but with a lovely warm sound.

The soundboard is in fine fettle with no cracking or splits.

Sacha purchased her due to wanting a softer sounding piano when performing Chopin and she doesn’t disappoint. He tried many older pianos and this was the piano he fell in love with.

It is with a heavy heart she is up for sale but due to future relocation of our showroom he really does need to thin his collection down 🙃.

Please bear in mind she is a classic piano and should be treated as such. Like any classic she doesn’t have the same tuning stability of a modern Yamaha etc although she is very very stable for her age. The sound isn’t pin sharp clarity and the bass isn’t booming but she just has an amazing character. She really is a piano that needs to be played to appreciate her.

Unlike many sellers we are honest and open in our descriptions so as well as listing all the great things about the piano we also like to point out any stand out marks or details so you know exactly what to expect when your piano arrives. Please bear in mind that most gloss finish pianos will have very fine micro scratches in the polyester / polish from dusting and this is pretty much unavoidable. We have NEVER seen a piano without micro scratches.

She is in fantastic condition. The casework is newly finished and unmarked and was professionally re finished with spray rather than a brush or roller finish. All original brass work has been restored. The inside of the cabinet does have some patina. The strings are 1960’s so show some age but still sound amazing and there is some paint misdoing on the action cradle from removal and refitting over the years. We really wanted to keep her character so have resisted fitting new strings and under-felting the hammers etc so keep that classic Pleyel sound.

  • WHY BUY FROM ROWLANDSON PIANOS

Here at Rowlandson pianos we pride ourselves on supplying good quality modern pianos and want the customer to be truly satisfied.  In an ever changing world we have adapted by making more information on the pianos accessible online, so you can see lots of photos and a video of the piano being played.  We actively seek to give an unbiased description of each piano we have for sale including any negative points.  Too many times have we turned up to view a 'immaculate' piano to find that it has cup stains and broken hinges etc where people's general response is "what do you expect for 20 years old".  We hate this, and I'm sure you do too so you can be sure if we say a piano is as new, it is.  If we say it has some marks around, it does.  And if we say it is not suitable for a grade 8 pianist, chances are it isn't.

One of our pet hates is people or companies selling 'refurbished' pianos.  Granted some of these may be part refurbished to a good standard, but with over 9000 parts in an upright piano, how many have really been 'refurbished' and not just had the odd felt or sticking key sorted.  If you put a new tyre on a car you would describe the car as refurbished would you?  Therefore, you will not see any 'refurbished' pianos for sale at Rowlandson pianos, just good quality serviced pianos.

  • RETURN & REFUND POLICY

If you are unhappy with, or change your mind about your purchase within the first 30 days you are welcome to return it, at your cost, for a full refund as long as it arrives back at Rowlandson pianos in the same condition as it left.  Pianos are a big piece of furniture and are neither cheap or easy to move around and we suggest that we can, at your cost, collect the item or you are welcome to make your own arrangements to return it but we do advice a specialist transport company and can usually recommend someone local to yourselves.

  • DELIVERY INFO

Delivery is charged at £1 per mile using google maps from our base at WF10 3QZ.  We do this so you can quickly and easily work out the delivery charges.  We transport our own pianos but we do work with other respectable piano moving companies who cover other areas and if they can deliver the piano to you cheaper than ourselves we will happily use their services and pass on the savings to yourselves.  Collection is also welcome and we are happy to help with loading if needed but we do advise the use of a specialist piano moving company
